UKuni & Liberty: 10% discount for our students

Arthur Lasenby Liberty founded the Liberty store, from borrowing £2,000 from his future Father-in-Law. He took over half of 218a Regent Street, along with three dedicated staff members to start with the operations of the business. The rationale of the store was to change the trends in home-ware and fashion. The store, inaugurated in 1875, began by selling ornaments, fabric, and objects d’art from the East, particularly from Japan. The business grew quickly, adding neighboring properties to the building, to meet the ever-growing demand of the customers.

In 1884, Arthur closely worked with Edward William Godwin, the founder of Costume Service Founder Society. Both were working on a project to create in-house apparel and challenge Parisian fashion. Additionally, Liberty also developed strong relationships with various British designers to further this cause. The most preeminent among those relations was with the protagonists of the Art Nouveau movement.

As can be seen in the pictures below, much has definitely changed since Liberty first opened in 1885.

Products

That's a bit about the history of Liberty, and fast forward to the 21st century, Liberty is seen as one of the iconic shopping destinations in London, rivalling Selfridges and Harrods.

Liberty offers contemporary and traditional collection of products from various brands and designers from all over the world.

The iconic store is located on Great Marlborough Street. Edwin T. Hall along with his son Edwin S. Hall designed the store from the timbers of two ships. Today, the store offers inspirational and exquisite scarves, accessories, fabrics, designer wear, and home-ware to its customers.
